Portrait of Frank Njugi

Frank Njugi is a writer, poet, and journalist from Naivasha, Kenya.

He has headlined festivals including the 2025 Umuofia Arts and Books Festival, a literary gathering in southeastern Nigeria established to honor Chinua Achebe’s legacy, and The Mumbai LitFest in India in 2026. He is currently a writer in residence at Princeton University's Africa World Initiative and is scheduled to take up a residency at Chateau d'Orquevaux International Artists & Writers Residency in the Ardennes, France, in 2027. His previous accolades include a nomination for the 2023 Pushcart Prize and recognition as a runner-up in the 2023 ILS–Fence Fellowship. He was also awarded the 2024 Jay Lit Prize for Nonfiction and was shortlisted for the 2025 Rajat Neogy Editorial Fellowship. Njugi is an alumnus of the Nairobi Writing Academy, a 2024 African Writers Trust Residency Fellow, and a 2024 and 2025 International Literary Seminar Fellow. He was also selected for the 2026 cohort of the Macondo Literary Festival's TBI Residency and the 2026 Maasai Land Writers Retreat.
